Salespeople – Learn some humility

I’ve met hundreds if not thousands of sales people over the years and still can’t believe how many people come in to interview with a god given sense of entitlement. What I’ve noticed is that best sales people – well certainly the most successful at landing jobs are those who are grounded.

They don’t have an over inflated view of themselves – at least publicly. They are accepting of your calls, come into interviews with a list of good questions, are polite in how they address you and are reasoned about why they say no to certain roles. They come to interview with a half glass full approach and listen to the opportunities.

It’s a rare trait in sales people but wins me over every time. With nothing against younger candidates I find this tends to be more prevalent in seasoned sales professionals. They’ve learned how to interact with recruiters. It's not difficult!

My favourite trait amongst sales people is a sense of humility or grounding.
